Spotlight on Opera is an exciting, two-tiered opera training and performance program offering a fall-winter season as well as an intensive three-week summer program. We have just completed a successful inaugural season as the official opera ensemble of St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas.
Spotlight's fall-winter season is open to community members as well as students. Summer Spotlight offers an intensive program of private voice lessons, master classes, and performance opportunities including concerts, opera excerpt programs, and a full one-act opera. Admittance to each program is by audition.
Spotlight welcomes career track and avocational singers aged 18-70 (and up). Our caring faculty of professional opera singers, pianists, and educators works with each singer to provide guidance and growth as an artist.
Our first fall/winter season included performances of The Song Cafe, our unique staged art song program; the French Connection Concert; two programs of opera scenes; and a double bill of Let's Hear It For the Boys (a scene showcase) and Suor Angelica. Our summer season includes The Song Cafe, an opera scenes showcase, aria concert, and a double bill of Acts I and II of Le nozze di Figaro and Cavalleria Rusticana, both sung in Italian.

Our registration deadline for the summer season is June 1, 2010. Auditions for Summer Spotlight will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 in Austin, TX and Sunday, May 16 in New York City. To apply, please fill out and return an application. Program dates are Sunday, July 25 – Sunday, August 15. Prospective students are welcome to visit the Program Info page, to download applications and read the latest news.
Registration for the Fall 2010 Season begins on August 1, and the deadline is September 1. Applications and audition information will be posted by August 1.
