OPERA IS FOR EVERYBODY!

At Spotlight, you’re a part of our family when you walk in the door, even if you’ve never attended an opera before! We want you to feel welcome and comfortable. If there’s ever anything we can do for you, please ask.

WHAT FREE OR LOW-COST OPTIONS DO YOU HAVE?

Spotlight offers many free performances throughout our season! Click here to see our calendar of events.

Otherwise, tickets start at just $7 for seniors, students, and military with ID and at $10 for the general public.

We’d love to see you at a show! If you’re still not sure, contact VIP@spotlightonopera.com for help.

WHAT IF I DON’T WANT TO COME ALONE?

Contact operabuddies@spotlightonopera.com and we’ll make sure you have someone to sit with! You can also volunteer to be an Opera Buddy.

WILL I UNDERSTAND IT?

Yes! Many of our performances are in English, and if they are not, we have supertitles (like subtitles on a foreign film).

DO I HAVE TO DRESS UP?

You certainly can dress up if you like, but these days, many people choose to “come as they are.” Jeans and even shorts are fine at the opera!

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

You might want a jacket or wrap, as the auditorium can get cold. But you don’t need anything fancy!

DO I HAVE TO BE QUIET? HOW DO I KNOW WHEN TO CLAP?

It’s polite to unwrap noisy cough drops before you enter the auditorium, to avoid chat or whispering during a show, and to stay in your seat until a break (unless there’s an emergency). But you should feel free to laugh, clap, and generally react naturally to what you see and hear on stage, and of course you can clap at the end of pieces or acts. The rule of thumb is to avoid disrupting the flow of the action. If you’re not sure … just wait until someone else starts the clapping!

CAN I TAKE PHOTOS OR VIDEO?

We ask you to respect our artists and other audience members by turning off and pocketing your phone during the show. There are always intermissions, so you can check for important messages (and post about the show if you like!) then. After the show, cast members will meet you in the lobby and you can take photos to your heart’s content!

CAN I BRING SNACKS?

You are welcome to bring your own snacks as long as you enjoy them in the lobby. Food and drink is not allowed in Anderson Auditorium. Spotlight will also have drinks and snacks available for sale during intermission, and some performances feature receptions open to all our Spotlight family.

WILL THE KIDS LIKE IT?

Just like the movies, some of our shows are great for the whole family, and others might be better for adults. If you’re not sure, contact us at kids@spotlightonopera.com. Also, be sure to check out our popular touring children’s opera

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?

For the best experience, you’ll want to arrive at least fifteen minutes before curtain. If you arrive late, we will seat you when we can do so without disrupting the show, and collect your ticket or money at intermission.

HOW CAN I GET THE MOST OUT OF THE PERFORMANCE?

Before you arrive, take at look at the calendar page for a backgrounder and story of the opera you’re attending. Cruise YouTube for clips from the show. And consider attending a free pre-show educational talk! Our calendar page will tell you which shows will include pre-show talks.
